Text

(a)In general The Secretary of State, acting through the Under Secretary for Management, shall administer the historic and artistic articles of furniture, fixtures, and decorative objects of the reception areas of the Department of State by such means and measures as conform to the purposes of the reception areas, which include conserving those articles, fixtures, and objects and providing for their enjoyment in such manner and by such means as will leave them for the use of the American people. Nothing shall be done under this subsection which conflicts with the administration of the Department of State or with the use of the reception areas for official purposes of the United States Government.

Diplomatic Reception Areas
Pub. L. 117–263, div. I, title XCVII, §9713, Dec. 23, 2022, 136 Stat. 3920, provided that:
"(a) Defined Term.—In this section, the term 'reception areas' has the meaning given such term in section 41(c) of the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 (22 U.S.C. 2713(c)).
"(b) In General.—The Secretary [of State] may sell goods and services at fair market value and use the proceeds of such sales for administration and related support of the reception areas.
"(c) Amounts Collected.—Amounts collected pursuant to the authority provided under subsection (b) may be deposited into an account in the Treasury, to remain available until expended."

Designation of Department of State Building as Harry S Truman Federal Building
Pub. L. 106–218, June 20, 2000, 114 Stat. 345, provided that:
"The Federal building located at 2201 C Street, Northwest, in the District of Columbia, currently headquarters for the Department of State, shall be known and designated as the 'Harry S Truman Federal Building'.
"Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the Federal building referred to in section 1 shall be deemed to be a reference to the 'Harry S Truman Federal Building'."
