The City Clerk shall perform for the City the same duties devolving by law upon town clerks, except so far as the same are rendered unnecessary by this charter, and shall receive the same fees therefor, or shall receive such compensation from the City for his or her services as the City Council shall allow. He or she shall be Clerk of the City Council and shall keep a record of their proceedings. He or she shall be sworn to the faithful performance of his or her duties, and his or her records, copies, and certificates shall be legal evidence in all courts and for all purposes, the same as those of town clerks.
