Sec. 854.407. ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS AND DETERMINATION OF DISABILITY.

(a)As soon as practicable after an application for occupational disability benefits has been filed, the medical board shall evaluate the medical and other pertinent information concerning the member's application. The medical board may require the member to be examined by one or more physicians designated by it.
(b)The medical board shall issue a certification of occupational disability and send it to the board of trustees if the medical board finds:
(1)that the member is physically or mentally disabled for further performance of the duties of the member's employment;
(2)that the disability is likely to be permanent; and
(3)that the member should be retired.
