Sec. 85.59. EXPLORATORY TERM; EXTENSION; OTHER PROVISIONS OF LEASE.
(a)The exploratory term of the lease as determined by the board prior to the promulgation of the advertisement shall in no case exceed five years, and each lease shall provide that the lease will terminate at the expiration of its exploratory term unless by unanimous vote of members of the board the lease may be extended for a period of three years. The lease may be extended if the board finds that there is likelihood of oil, gas, sulphur, mineral ore, and other minerals being discovered by lessees, and that the lessees have proceeded with diligence to protect the interest of the state.
