§ 68-2-701 — Joint district health departments - Powers and duties - Municipal support

(a) Two (2) or more contiguous counties may, by resolution duly approved by a majority vote of each respective county legislative body, combine and contract, each with the other, for the purpose of forming a district health department, having all the powers, responsibilities and duties conferred upon county health departments by the provisions and statutes prescribing these powers, duties and responsibilities, where the combination can be economically administered as determined by the commissioner of health. (b) Municipalities in any component county of the health district are authorized to cooperate in the support of the district health department through the county government of the component county, and to enter into an agreement with the county by which the district health department shall also serve as the health department for the municipality.
