§ 68-142-103 — Composition

The state team shall be composed as provided in this section. Any ex officio member, other than the commissioner of health, may designate an agency representative to serve in such person's place. Members of the state team shall be as follows: (1) The commissioner of health, who shall chair the state team; (2) The attorney general and reporter; (3) The commissioner of children's services; (4) The director of the Tennessee bureau of investigation; (5) A physician nominated by the state chapter of the American Medical Association; (6) A physician to be appointed by the commissioner of health who is credentialed in forensic pathology, preferably with experience in pediatric forensic pathology; (7) The commissioner of mental health and substance abuse services; (8) A member of the judiciary selected from a list submitted by the chief justice of the Tennessee supreme court; (9) The executive director of the commission on children and youth; (10) A representative from a professional organization working to prevent abuse of children; (11) A team coordinator, to be appointed by the commissioner of health; (12) Two (2) members of the house of representatives to be appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives, at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of the health committee; (13) Two (2) senators to be appointed by the speaker of the senate, at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of the health and welfare committee; (14) The commissioner of education or the commissioner's designee; (15) The commissioner of disability and aging; and (16) (A) Three (3) residents of this state who are each the parent of a child under eighteen (18) years of age. The governor, the speaker of the senate, and the speaker of the house of representatives shall each appoint one (1) person pursuant to this subdivision (16); (B) Each person appointed pursuant to this subdivision (16) serves for a period of three (3) years; provided, that if the person's youngest child reaches eighteen (18) years of age before the end of the person's term, then the person's appointment expires on the date the person's youngest child reaches eighteen (18) years of age, and the vacancy created by the expiration is filled by the appointing authority in the same manner as the original appointment; and (C) Each person appointed pursuant to this subdivision (16) serves without compensation, but may be reimbursed for travel and other expenses incurred in attending each meeting and in performing other duties provided for in this chapter. All reimbursement expenses must be in accordance with the comprehensive travel regulations promulgated by the commissioner of finance and administration and approved by the attorney general and reporter;
