(a)Each principal and administrator shall be required to attend the principal-administrator academy for instruction at least once every five (5) years; provided, that the commissioner may, at the commissioner's discretion, grant an extension not to exceed one (1) additional year to any principal or administrator who has not satisfied the attendance requirements of this subsection (a). The commissioner shall prescribe procedures to review and evaluate the various components of the academy to ensure a high level of instruction for the participants. The requirement for attendance at the principal-administrator academy shall be optional to any principal, supervisor, or other administrator who would otherwise be required to attend, however classified, with fifteen (15) or more years of experie
