The Department of Transportation shall establish performance standards designed to measure the overall condition of the highways and bridges on the state highway system, along with establishing ten-year goals for maintenance of these conditions. When establishing appropriate performance standards, the department may include nationally established standards and measurements required to be reported to the United States Department of Transportation. The department shall, before the fourth Tuesday in January of each year, report to the Senate and House standing committees on transportation on the current and projected condition of the highways and bridges on the state trunk highway system.
