Text
All sheriffs or officers having charge of any jail to whom any person shall be sent or committed by virtue of legal process issued by or under the authority of the United States, shall receive such person into custody and safely keep him until he is discharged by due course of the laws of the United States. The United States shall be liable to pay for the support and keeping of such prisoners at such rates as may be negotiated between the United States and the local jail authority. Any sheriff or other officer violating the provisions of this section shall be subject to the same penalties and shall be liable in like manner as if such person has been committed to their custody by legal process issued under the authority of this state.
