§ 42-60.1-1. Purpose.

It is declared that the energy wasted by inefficient appliances results in higher utility bills and hastens the need for new electricity generating facilities, and therefore, is a burden to the economic growth and the prosperity of the citizens of the state. Reducing demand for energy is a more cost-effective and lower environmental impact strategy than the continuation of the current energy use, and therefore it is in the public interest of the state to establish minimum energy efficiency standards for appliances.
