§ 11-25-1. Escape from correctional institutions.
Every prisoner who shall attempt to escape, or who shall escape, from the lawful custody
            of the warden of the adult correctional institutions, or from the custody of the director
            of behavioral healthcare, developmental disabilities and hospitals pursuant to the
            provisions of § 40.1-5.3-1, shall, upon conviction, be imprisoned not more than three (3) years or be fined
            not more than five hundred dollars ($500). However, nothing in this section shall
            be construed to include the offense of breaking jail.
