Text
The Department of Transportation may impose a surcharge on any fee the department is authorized to collect if the fee is imposed for a transaction that can be accomplished by a customer of the department in more than one way and the customer chooses the more expensive way. A surcharge imposed under this section may be added to the amount tendered by the customer to offset fees charged to the department for acceptance and use of a credit card. A surcharge may not be imposed under this section until the department adopts rules specifying transactions for which the surcharge will be imposed.
