(1)A life insurance policy other than a nonparticipating policy shall contain a provision that the policy shall participate in the divisible surplus of the insurer annually, beginning not later than the end of the third policy year. Any policy containing provision for participation beginning at the end of the first or the second policy year may provide that dividends for either or both of such years shall be paid subject to the payment of the premium for the next ensuing year. The owner of the policy shall have the right each year to have the dividend arising from such participation paid in cash, and if the policy provides other dividend options, it shall further provide which dividend option is effective if the owner does not elect one of such options on or before the expiration of the p
