(1)As part of the negotiation process between the Department of Transportation and another road authority concerning transfer of jurisdiction over a state highway from the department to the other road authority, the department shall identify any tourist oriented directional signs and logo signs on the state highway that will be affected by the transfer. If there are such signs, the department shall notify the Travel Information Council of the proposed transfer of jurisdiction.
(2)When signs described in subsection (1) of this section are identified, the road authority that will receive jurisdiction over the state highway shall, as part of the negotiation process, agree in writing to protect the signs from destruction or removal.
