(1)(a) The Legislative Policy and Research Committee shall consist of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President of the Senate, members of the House appointed by the Speaker so that there is an equal number of majority party and minority party members of the House including the Speaker, and members of the Senate appointed by the President so that there is an equal number of majority party and minority party members of the Senate including the President. The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate may each designate, from among the members of the appropriate house, majority party and minority party alternates to exercise powers as members of the committee.
(b)The appointing authorities shall appoint members of a new committee within 30 days a
