§ 47-163 — Certification to transport household goods.

A.No person shall transport household goods for compensation or other consideration in intrastate commerce without a valid certificate issued by the Corporation Commission.

B.The Commission shall promulgate rules ensuring consumer protection and loss and damage claim procedures.

C.Every motor carrier, subject to this act, receiving household goods for transportation in intrastate commerce shall issue a receipt or bill of lading therefor, the form of which shall be prescribed by the Commission.

D.Record-keeping documents, as required by the Commission, shall be maintained by the motor carrier of household goods for a minimum of three (3) years. The Commission is authorized to require certain documents to be retained for a longer period of time pending a claim for any other reason the Co

After proper notice and hearing, violators may be assessed penalties in an amount not to exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) for the first violation and for the second violation within a year a penalty not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00).
