service not prohibited. The provisions of sections 1 and 2 of this act shall not be construed as preventing or prohibiting the giving or accepting of gifts or rewards by any of the persons specified in said sections for outstanding play or meritorious service in the performance of their duties in, or in connection with, any athletic contest or contests.
