The state board of emergency medical, fire, and transportation services shall adopt rules under section4765.11of the Revised Code to establish an expedited veterans paramedic certification program for any person who is a veteran of the armed forces of the United States and who, while serving in the armed forces of the United States, received training as what this state categorizes as a paramedic. The program shall provide for a method or procedure whereby, upon application by such a veteran, the veteran is evaluated to determine the extent of the training the veteran received while serving in the armed forces of the United States. The state board of emergency medical, fire, and transportation services shall adopt rules under section4765.11of the Revised Code to establish an expedited veterans paramedic certification program for any person who is a veteran of the armed forces of the United States and who, while serving in the armed forces of the United States, received training as what this state categorizes as a paramedic. The program shall provide for a method or procedure whereby, upon application by such a veteran, the veteran is evaluated to determine the extent of the training the veteran received while serving in the armed forces of the United States. If the evaluation indicates that the training the veteran received while serving in the armed forces of the United States was such that the veteran is eligible to be issued a certificate to practice as a paramedic, the board shall issue the veteran a certificate to practice as a paramedic as provided in section4765.30of the Revised Code upon payment of the appropriate fee.

If the evaluation indicates that the training the veteran received while serving in the armed forces of the United States was such that the veteran is not eligible to be issued a certificate to practice as a paramedic, the veteran shall receive credit for the training the veteran received while serving in the armed forces of the United States and shall be required to successfully complete only the necessary additional training or instruction in order to be issued a certificate to practice as a paramedic.
