§ 99-N — Highway construction and maintenance safety education fund

§ 99-n. Highway construction and maintenance safety education fund. 1.\nThere is hereby established in the joint custody of the state\ncomptroller and the commissioner of taxation and finance a special\nrevenue fund to be known as the "highway construction and maintenance\nsafety education fund".\n 2. The fund shall consist of all monies appropriated for its purpose,\nall monies required by this section or any other provision of law to be\npaid into or credited to such fund, collected by the mandatory\nsurcharges imposed pursuant to subdivision one of section eighteen\nhundred nine-d of the vehicle and traffic law. Nothing contained in this\nsection shall prevent the department of motor vehicles from receiving\ngrants or other appropriations for the purposes of the fund as defined\nin this section and depositing them into the fund according to law.\n 3. Monies of the fund, when allocated, shall be disbursed to provide\neducation, advocacy and increased awareness of the laws pertaining to\nmaximum speed limits in highway construction and maintenance work areas\nand may be used to execute contracts with private organizations for such\npurposes. Such contracts shall be awarded upon competitive bids after\nthe issuance of requests for proposals.\n
