§ 55. Effect of unconstitutionality in part. If any clause, sentence,\nparagraph, section or part of this chapter shall be adjudged by any\ncourt of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such judgment shall not\naffect, impair or invalidate the remainder thereof, but shall be\nconfined in its operation to the clause, sentence, paragraph, section,\nor part thereof directly involved in the controversy in which such\njudgment shall have been rendered.\n
