Sheriffs and all other peace officers and traffic officers of this State are charged with the duty, without further compensation, of assisting in the enforcement of this chapter. They shall make arrests for this purpose when requested by an authorized agent of the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Public Safety, the Authority or other competent authority.
