1. The Board of Regents shall require each student who participates as a member of a varsity athletic team which represents an institution within the System to make satisfactory progress toward obtaining a degree as a condition of participation as a member of the team. 2. The Board of Regents shall establish standards for determining whether a student is making satisfactory progress toward obtaining his or her degree as required by this section. Except as otherwise provided in NRS 396.158 , the standards must:

(a)Include a requirement that a student enroll in a sufficient number of courses in each semester that are required to obtain the academic degree the student is seeking to allow the student to complete the requirements for obtaining the degree within a reasonable period after the st
