After the close of registration for each primary election but not later than the Friday preceding the primary election, after the close of registration for each presidential preference primary election but not later than the Friday preceding the presidential preference primary election and after the close of registration for each general election but not later than the Friday preceding the general election, the county clerk shall ascertain by precinct and district the number of registered voters in the county and their political affiliation, if any, and shall transmit that information to the Secretary of State.
