a.The county governing body shall appoint deputy county assessors and assistant deputy county assessors as needed, subject to the requirements of section 13 of P.L.2009, c.118 (C.54:1-98). Deputy county assessors and assistant deputy county assessors may be appointed at any time after the appointment of the county assessor in a pilot county. A candidate for the position of deputy county assessor or assistant deputy county assessor shall hold a certified tax assessor certificate. Such a candidate may substitute, for any requirement of years of experience for appointment to those positions, on a year for year basis, membership in the Appraisal Institute or years of experience as a Principal Assistant Assessor.
