Except as herein otherwise provided, no person shall on and after July 1, 1971, be appointed or reappointed as tax assessor in any municipality in this State unless he shall hold a tax assessor certificate. The foregoing limitation shall not apply to an assessor who shall have served continuously in office from July 1, 1967 to the date of reappointment. L.1967, c. 44, s. 6, eff. May 4, 1967.
