The State Bureau of Identification created by an act entitled "An act to create a State Bureau of Identification within the Department of State Police and requiring peace officers, persons in charge of certain State institutions and others to make reports respecting criminals to such bureau, and to provide a penalty for violation of the provisions thereof," approved April third, one thousand nine hundred and thirty (L.1930, c. 65, p. 279), is continued. The State Bureau of Identification shall be within the Department of State Police and under the supervision and control of the Superintendent of State Police. The State Bureau of Identification shall be within the Department of State Police and under the supervision and control of the Superintendent of State Police. The superintendent shall appoint a supervisor of the State Bureau of Identification, with the rank and pay of a lieutenant in the State Police, and such other personnel, with the equivalent rank and pay of their positions in the State Police, and such civilian personnel as he may deem necessary to carry out the provisions of this article. The nucleus of such bureau shall be the fingerprints and photographs heretofore on file in the central bureau of identification in the Department of State Police which will be added to as provided by the provisions of this article. The superintendent shall supply such bureau with the necessary apparatus and materials for collecting, filing, preserving and distributing criminal records. For the purpose of establishing civil service rights for full-time civilian employees, there are hereby established in the State Bureau of Identification the following titles: Principal clerk, principal clerk-stenographer, senior clerk-stenographer, assistant photographer, senior fingerprint operators, fingerprint operators, senior identification clerk, identification clerks, chemist criminal laboratory. The present civilian employees of the State Bureau of Identification shall be placed by the Civil Service Commission in the classified service and shall hold and retain their present title, pursuant to the provisions of Title 11, subtitle two, of the Revised Statutes.
