A registered holder of any warrant issued by any municipality in accordance with said act desiring a warrant or warrants of different denomination or denominations shall request in writing the issuance of such new warrant or warrants, stating the denomination or denominations desired, and file such request with the chief financial officer of the municipality. When any such request is so filed, said financial officer of the municipality shall cause a warrant or warrants of like tenor and effect as those originally issued to be prepared, of the denomination or denominations requested by the registered holder of the warrant or warrants originally issued, but not exceeding in aggregate the amount of the warrants originally issued and referred to in said request.
