The sergeant at arms of each house of the legislature shall keep a record of the attendance at each session of either house of all of its officers and employees whose compensation is fixed by sections 52:11-2 and 52:11-3 of this title, except: a. The secretary of the senate, the assistant secretary of the senate, the secretary to the president of the senate and the chaplain of the senate; b. The clerk and the assistant clerk of the house, and the secretary and the assistant secretary to the speaker of the house; c. The journal clerks, the supervisors of bills and the sergeants at arms of the senate and the house; and d. The secretaries and clerks of the committees of the senate and the house. Any officer or employee whose record of attendance is required to be kept as herein provided shall

Any officer or employee whose record of attendance is required to be kept as herein provided shall, for each day that he may be absent during any portion of a session, be marked absent on the record, unless his absence is excused by the presiding officer of the respective houses or such person as the presiding officers may designate for that purpose. The total compensation of each officer or employee whose record of attendance is required to be kept as herein provided shall be reduced in the proportion that the number of days of unexcused absence, as shown by the record, bears to the number of days that the house of which he is an officer or employee has been in regular session.
