44:4-78. If any director of welfare under direction of the county welfare board or any overseer or county adjuster as the case may be shall neglect to receive or remove a poor person, as provided in this chapter, after the determination of the matter by any court having jurisdiction, the county or municipality as the case may be where the neglect occurs shall be liable for the expense of the support and relief of the poor person. The expense shall be recoverable from time to time, with costs, by the county welfare board or overseer incurring the cost of the relief and support, in an action at law in any court of competent jurisdiction in the name of the county or municipality as the case may be against the county or municipality liable therefor.
