§ 40:62-140 — Right of entry for inspection; penalty for obstructing inspectors

All engineers, surveyors, officers, agents, employees or committeemen appointed for the purposes provided in sections 40:62-133 to 40:62-150 of this title may enter upon any land or water for the purpose of making any and all surveys and examinations necessary, and at all reasonable hours enter any dwelling or other place where the water so furnished is taken or used, and where unnecessary waste thereof is known or suspected, and examine and inquire into the cause thereof, and may examine all service pipes, stopcocks and other apparatus connected with the water supply or drainage works, for the purpose of ascertaining whether the same are of the character and dimensions, and fixed in the manner by the rules of the commission regulating the same. If any person shall refuse to permit the examination, or oppose or obstruct an engineer, surveyor, officer, agent, employee or committeeman in the performance of such duties, the person so offending shall have the supply of water shut off until the required examination is made and such alteration and repairs as may be necessary shall be completed.
