1.
a.Each year on August 26, Women's Equality Day, an award for Woman Police Officer of the Year shall be presented by the Governor to an individual in recognition of her devotion to duty and heroism. This award shall be known as the Abigail Powlett Award.
b.Nominations for the award may be submitted by any municipal, county or State police department in the State, at any time during the year, to the Office of the Attorney General in the Department of Law and Public Safety with a written statement setting forth the reasons for the individual's nomination.
c.From the nominations submitted, the Attorney General shall recommend one candidate to the Governor who shall present the award in a public ceremony. L.1991,c.443.
