Every township may convey, sell, or dispose of real property of the township upon recommendation by the board of township supervisors and upon approval by the township electors at the annual meeting or at a special meeting called for such purpose. When the board estimates the real property to be of a value of less than one thousand dollars, it may be sold at private sale, but in all other cases such property may be sold only at public sale. A notice containing a description of the property to be sold and designating the place where and the day and hour when the sale will be held must be published in the official county newspaper once each week for two consecutive weeks with the last publication being at least ten days prior to the date set for the sale.
