The executive officer in charge of a state agency or the governing body of any political
subdivision may grant temporary short-term leave with compensation to any full-time employee
of that governmental entity for the purpose of allowing the employee to respond to an
emergency call if the employee is a volunteer emergency medical service provider, firefighter,
emergency radio operator, or a member of the civil air patrol.
