coverage - Notification of birth or adoption.

1.All individual and group health insurance policies providing coverage on an expense-incurred basis and individual and group service or indemnity type contracts issued by a nonprofit corporation which provide coverage for a family member of the insured or subscriber must, as to the family members' coverage, also provide that the health insurance benefits applicable for children are payable with respect to a newly born child of the insured or subscriber from the moment of birth and are also payable from the date of physical placement by a licensed child placement agency or by the birth parent pursuant to chapter 14-15.1 with respect to an adopted child.

1. All individual and group health insurance policies providing coverage on an
expense-incurred basis and individual and group service or indemnity type contracts
issued by a nonprofit corporation which provide coverage for a family member of the
insured or subscriber must, as to the family members' coverage, also provide that the

2. The coverage for newly born children and for children placed for adoption by a
licensed child placement agency or by the birth parent pursuant to chapter 14-15.1
consists of coverage of injury or sickness, including the necessary care and treatment
of medically diagnosed congenital defects and birth abnormalities.
3. If payment of a specific premium or subscription fee is required to provide coverage for
a child, the policy or contract may require that notification of birth of a newly born child
or child placed for adoption by a licensed child placement agency or by the birth parent
pursuant to chapter 14-15.1 and payment of the required premium or fees must be
furnished to the insurer or nonprofit service or indemnity corporation within thirty-one
days after the date of birth or date of physical placement by a licensed child placement
agency or by the birth parent pursuant to chapter 14-15.1 of the child in order to have
the coverage continue beyond the thirty-one-day period.
