Text

1.At the expiration of the ninety-six-hour period, the respondent may be detained and treated involuntarily for an additional two judicial days only if the head of the mental health facility has filed a petition for additional inpatient detention and treatment not to exceed twenty-one days or has filed a petition for outpatient detention and treatment for a period not to exceed one hundred eighty days.
2.Within ninety-six hours following initial detention, the head of the facility may file or cause to be filed either a petition for a twenty-one-day inpatient involuntary detention and treatment period or a petition for outpatient detention and treatment for a period not to exceed one hundred eighty days, provided he or she has reasonable cause to believe that the person is mentally ill
