All lands belonging to the state, not otherwise appropriated under the laws thereof, which have been formed by the recession and abandonment of their waters of the old beds of lakes and rivers in this state, or by the formation of islands in the navigable waters of the state, are hereby granted and transferred to the respective counties in which such lands are located, to be held by such counties for school purposes.

(RSMo 1939 § 12789) Prior revisions: 1929 § 11165; 1919 § 7029; 1909 § 8032 (1960) Evidence as to alleged island in Mississippi reviewed and held to establish that the land involved was an accretion and that it did not form out of the bed of the Mississippi River on property which was owned by the state. Low watermark of river held to be the boundary of the riparian owner's property and since river never separated the so-called island from bank of the river at the low watermark, there was no island. Conran v. Girvin (Mo.), 341 S.W.2d 75.
