1.The provisions of chapter 287 governing workers' compensation may be extended to include the employees of the state highways and transportation commission and the employees of the state highway patrol as herein provided. The state highways and transportation commission shall have authority by resolution to elect, under the provisions of section 287.030 , to accept the provisions of chapter 287 and to pay compensation to its employees and to the uniformed members of the state highway patrol, for injury or death arising out of and in the course of their employment in accordance with the provisions and restrictions as set forth in chapter 287 .
