Text
1.
(1)The purpose of this section is to grant to the curators of the University of Missouri additional powers in the use of the land acquired by the state under the provisions of the act of February 24, 1870, establishing the agricultural and mechanical college, including the right to transfer title thereto as herein provided. The act of 1870 was enacted to comply with the provisions of the act of congress of July 2, 1862, the Morrill Act, which provided that in order for a state to qualify for a land grant it must establish and maintain an agricultural and mechanical college. The general assembly of Missouri, to assure continuance of the college in compliance with the Morrill Act, provided that the land should be used for the purposes of the agricultural and mechanical college.
