The treasurer of each seven-director district is not responsible for the loss of any funds and moneys of the district through the negligence or default of any depositary; but nothing in sections 165.201 to 165.291 shall release the treasurer from liability for any loss resulting from any official misconduct on his part or from any responsibility for the funds and moneys of the school district until the time the depositaries are selected and the funds and moneys deposited therein, or from liability for any misappropriation by him in any manner of funds and moneys.
