Subdivision 1.Parent-child relationship between adoptee and genetic parents. Except as otherwise provided in subdivisions 2 to 5, unless otherwise decreed, a parent-child relationship does not exist between an adoptee and the adoptee's genetic parents. Subd. 2.Stepchild adopted by stepparent. A parent-child relationship exists between an individual who is adopted by the spouse of either genetic parent and the genetic parent whose spouse adopted the individual. No parent-child relationship exists between an individual and the other genetic parent unless the other genetic parent was deceased at the time of the child's adoption and then only for the purpose of the right of the adoptee or a descendant of the adoptee to inherit from or through that other genetic parent.
