Subdivision 1.Purpose. It is the express intent of this section to permit interstate branching by mergers under section 102 of the Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act of 1994, Public Law 103-328, according to this section. Subd. 2.Definitions. As used in this section, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the following terms have the meanings given them.

(a)"Bank" has the meaning given in United States Code, title 12, section 1813(h) with the following exceptions:
(1)the term does not include a foreign bank as defined in United States Code, title 12, section 3101(7); and (2) the term includes a foreign bank organized under the laws of a territory of the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, or the Virgin Islands, the deposits of which are i
