Grants may be made by the Board of Water and Soil Resources to a local governmental unit for the purposes of sections103F.171to103F.187in an amount not to exceed 75 percent of the total cost of each project, including site acquisition, engineering, and construction. If federal funds are being utilized for a portion of the project costs, the state contribution may not exceed 50 percent of the remaining nonfederal costs. If the structure is located in the state of South Dakota, the two states shall share the nonfederal costs equally. Money granted by the state may not be used for any project of stream channelization.
