TRAFFIC ORDINANCES AT STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES (EXCERPT) Act 291 of 1967 390.892a Violation as civil infraction; civil fines; limitation; conflict with act; misdemeanor penalty prohibited; processing of violation. Sec. 2a.

(1)The governing board of a state university or college that enacts an ordinance under section 1 may establish a civil fine for any violation of the ordinance designated as a civil infraction by the governing board.

(2)If a civil infraction included in an ordinance enacted by the governing board of a state university or college under section 1 substantially corresponds to a provision of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.1 to 257.923, a civil fine established by the governing board for that infraction shall not exceed the maximum civil fine for the

A civil fine in excess of the amount prescribed in section 907 of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.907, is in conflict with that act and is void to the extent of the conflict. (3) An ordinance enacted under section 1 shall not impose a misdemeanor penalty for an act or omission that is a civil infraction under the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.1 to 257.923. (4) Except as provided in section 3, the violation of a provision designated as a civil infraction in an ordinance enacted under section 1 shall be processed in the same manner as a civil infraction under the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.1 to 257.923.
