THE PUPIL TRANSPORTATION ACT (EXCERPT) Act 187 of 1990 257.1820 Stop-arm camera system; agreement with law enforcement agencies. Sec. 20.

(1)A school bus may be equipped with a stop-arm camera system in accordance with this section.

(2)A school district may do any of the following:

(a)Install and operate a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.

(b)Enter into an agreement with 1 or more law enforcement agencies that establishes enforcement responsibilities for and the reimbursement of any costs related to a camera-based violation of section 682(1) of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.682.

(c)Enter into a contract with a private vendor to do 1 or more of the following:

(i)Install, operate, and provide support to a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.

(3) If required by a contract entered into under subsection (2), a private vendor operating a stop-arm camera system shall provide all of the following information to a law enforcement agency authorized to enforce section 682(1) of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.682, if the stop-arm camera system captures a photograph or records video showing an alleged violation of section 682(1) of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.682: (a) A copy of the photograph captured or video recorded showing the motor vehicle. (b) The registration plate number and state of issuance of the registration plate. (c) The date, time, and place of the alleged violation.
