The liability of the keeper of any inn, hotel or boardinghouse for loss of or injury to personal property placed by guests under the keeper's care, other than that described in sections 3851 to 3853, shall be that of a depository for hire, except that if the loss or injury is caused by fire not intentionally produced by the keeper or employees, the keeper is not liable.

1.Limit on liability. In no case may liability exceed the sum of $150 for each trunk and its contents; $50 for each piece of luggage and its contents; $10 for each box, bundle or package and its contents, so placed under the keeper's care; and for all other miscellaneous effects, including wearing apparel and personal belongings, $50, unless the keeper of the inn, hotel or boardinghouse has consented in writing with the gu
