§ 20-A §8454 — Oath of office

1.
Oath.
Before taking any official action, a newly appointed member of a cooperative board shall take the following oath or affirmation before a dedimus justice or notary public."I (name) do swear that I will faithfully discharge to the best of my abilities the duties incumbent on me as a member of the cooperative board of Career and Technical Education Region No. according to the Constitution of Maine and laws of this State, so help me God."
2.
Certificate.
A member of a cooperative board shall make a certificate documenting that the member has taken the oath or affirmation and return it to the secretary of the cooperative board who shall keep it on file at the office of the cooperative board.
3.
Alternative language.
If a member is conscientiously scrupulous of taking an oath, the word "affirm" must be used instead of the word "swear" and the words "this I do under the pains and penalty of perjury" must be used instead of the words "so help me God."
