Section 48. Incumbents of offices or positions classified under sections forty-five to fifty, inclusive, shall perform, so far as practicable, the duties prescribed for the respective classes, but said sections shall not limit or restrict administrative authorities in exercising supervision of, or control over, their employees, or in assigning related, incidental or emergency duties to them.
