Section 5I. The department may from time to time, after a public hearing, adopt, alter or repeal such rules and regulations relative to the use of laser systems, devices or equipment as it shall deem necessary to protect the public from the hazards of laser rays or beams, with penalties for the violation thereof not exceeding five hundred dollars for any particular offense. Such rules and regulations may require the registration of said systems, devices or equipment.This section shall not be construed as limiting the powers of the department of labor standards under the provisions of chapter one hundred and forty-nine relative to the prevention of accidents or injuries to employees.
