The governing authorities of municipal corporations, including cities, towns and villages, may incur debt and issue bonds of the municipal corporations for the following purposes: opening, constructing, paving and improving streets, sidewalks, roads and alleys; constructing bridges; purchasing or constructing waterworks; sewers and sewerage disposal works; drains, drainage canals, and pumping plants; waste disposal facilities; facilities for pollution control and abatement; light and power plants; gas plants; artificial ice and refrigerating plants; halls; courthouses; jails; public markets, and abattoirs; fire department stations and equipment; hospitals, auditoriums; public parks; natatoriums; libraries; school houses; teachers' homes; and other public buildings; docks, wharves, and rive
