§744. Purchase of cattle for slaughter
A.No person engaged in the business of butchering or slaughtering
cattle shall purchase any cattle slaughtered by another unless the hide and ears
of the animal accompany the carcass.
B.No person engaged in the business of butchering or slaughtering
cattle shall purchase any cattle slaughtered by another if the hide or ears
accompanying the carcass indicate that the brand or mark on the animal has
been changed, mutilated, or destroyed.
C.The provisions of this Section shall not apply to persons engaged in
the business of butchering or slaughtering cattle who are operating under the
provisions of the federal Packers and Stockyards Act of 1924, as amended, or
under a permit issued by the Louisiana Department of Health.
